Should You Choose a Quartz Countertop?

With all the different types of countertops available out there, it can be difficult to decide on just which one you should go with. One of the most popular options is a quartz countertop, and there are several reasons for this, which will be discussed in detail here.

Just like with granite, a quartz countertop is very durable and great for use in the kitchen. Engineered quartz offers the general appearance of granite but its texture is more uniform and lacks the natural dramatic grains of real granite.

Builder Benefits

In particular there are many builder benefits offered by a quartz countertop. For one, like granite, quartz is generally installed by personnel trained by the fabricator or distributor. This ensures that each piece will fit in perfectly and that the end result will be as it was planned.

The builders and installers need to be familiar with the countertop, the different pieces that are included, in order to make sure that they are going to understand how to properly install them.

More Selection for You

With a quartz countertop you are offered great versatility, and there are hundreds of different design options that you can choose to go with. Quartz can even be matched up with other materials, such as travertine backsplashes and stainless steel appliances with matching backsplashes, for instance.

If you are trying to decide on a type of countertop to go with for your kitchen, quartz is a fabulous option. The biggest problem is that many homeowners do not realize just how many benefits a quartz countertop offers, and so besides reading this information you should also take additional time to learn more, educate yourself even further, to understand the advantages of quartz used in countertops and use this to best decide whether or not this is going to be the right choice for you.

Keep in mind however that there are many other options as well, and so if you decide that quartz is in fact not for you, you do still have many other materials that you can go with to have your countertops made.

The most important thing is that you hire the right people to do the installation work, otherwise no matter how quality a material you choose to use it is still going to turn out poorly and this is not what you want. You should never try to install countertops yourself because you are unfamiliar with the material and it will not turn out as good as it would have if you had have had professionals do the job for you.

Taking Care of Glass Tiles Flooring

August 31, 2009 · Filed Under Glass Tile · Comment

Maintaining your glass tiles is important to retain its luminescence and beauty. And since a glass tile is different from natural stone tiles, there are number of ways to ensure that it stays in its best condition for years to come.

Since glass tiles do not burn, have no smell, and won’t retain liquid, they are relatively easy to take care of. Just make sure to buy a glass tile that is strong enough to endure the amount of foot traffic that you expect. Most glass tiles are durable and no more susceptible to regular foot traffic as a ceramic floor tile. This is good since it will mean less work for you because glass tiles are easy to maintain and can withstand abuse. However, there are preventive measures and considerations to think about when purchasing a glass tile and here are some facts to help you decide whether to buy one or not.

1. Glass tiles need to be cleaned consistently with regular sweeping and mopping.

2. Glass tiles have various sizes. The smaller tiles often have exposed grout but the larger ones don’t.

3. Glass tiles do not retain heat so it is important that your house is well-heated especially in wintertime.

4. There are glass tiles that are skid-free but its price is higher that the normal glass tiles.

Overall, glass tile maintenance is very easy as long as you are consistent in your regular household cleaning method. There are also cleaning agents that are available in the market but make sure to inquire before purchasing especially if your tiles have special finish.

That is why people are now inclined to make an effort to beautify and make this space more homelike. Fortunately, garage floor tile is here to the rescue.

You can choose from vinyl tiles, or rubber tiles, to suit your best interests. Either one works and is both very durable. These tiles are resistant to chipping, cracking, and peeling, and can be easily maintained. To clean up, you can use vacuum debris or hose it down. Also, they are not affected by oil, grease, and other chemicals that can damage a traditional floor tile. It can also withstand any vehicle weight and doesn’t move until you choose to move them. Plus, they come in great variety of designs and patterns so you can easily choose the look that you want.

Installing garage floor tile can add a defining look in your garage and can even increase the value of your home.

Countertop Choices

August 31, 2009 · Filed Under Countertop · Comment

Many homeowners get scared off at the thought of choosing a countertop for their kitchen. This is really no surprise, considering not only the numerous options that area available but also the general high cost of countertops and therefore how much of a financial investment they are.

Choosing the right countertop really does not have to be difficult however, and with a few helpful tips and tricks you will be well on your way to finding the perfect countertop, one that fits your needs and budget and which is going to be well suited to your home.

Countertop Choices

One of the first steps is going to be for you to choose the material for your countertop. To find the ideal material for your kitchen, you are first going to have to determine how much will need to be used and how much you have to spend. Obviously you can only pay for what you can afford, so if you are strapped for cash for instance, this is going to determine what materials you are limited to for your countertop choices.

Granite and marble are two of the most popular countertop choices, because they are so durable and aesthetically appealing. They are more expensive than most other materials however, so again if you are on a tight budget you will more than likely have to choose another material to go with.

There are many other natural stone options that you may be interested in, such as limestone and soapstone, and although these are obviously not as attractive and high quality as the granite and quartz, they are still quite beautiful when done properly and also much more affordable.

Color

Another step is to choose the color for your countertop. This can also be tricky, because you want to choose a color that is going to go well with your existing décor – or the future design plan of the room – and one that you are going to enjoy for years to come and not grow bored of or regret.

For these reasons it is best that you choose a neutral color for your countertop, although if you are more daring you could always do it with a splash of color such as red or blue. If you think that resale value may be a consideration for you at some point in the future, you will want to keep your countertop choices fairly low-key. Also consider whether your kitchen is visible to any other rooms in the home, because if not you have a lot more versatility and can have a lot more fun with it.

Home Improvement Tips For A Return On Investment

August 31, 2009 · Filed Under Kitchen Improvement · Comment

There are renovations and then there are renovations. Perhaps you as a homeowner do not understand the entire concept related to this issue. To clarify, there are home improvement ideas to add value to your home and others that simply do not.

Therefore, your renovations must coincide with the type of home you own. For instance, the most expensive materials would benefit only homes that are considered upscale. The kitchen would be a good example here. High end, imported and top of the line, custom kitchen cupboards would suit an upscale home for the affluent. Such value would never be appreciated in average homes, nor would it appreciate the value of the property.

And, vice-versa! An upscale home would depreciate in value if the materials used were low end. The important thing to remember in home renovations is that the improvement must be in tune with the property and any future potential buyers. Not only should it please you, the homeowner, it should keep the type and actual value of the home.

This is being a responsible and knowledgeable consumer. When it comes to renovations, know your limits in order to reap the rewards at a later date. Some inexpensive yet beautiful home improvement tips will get you more value. Getting the look of something very expensive, but with an inexpensive method is the best solution. It is senseless to expect to make money on a renovation that does not suit the home.

But, for those who need to update some parts of their homes, the bathrooms and kitchens are the rooms that get the most value for your buck. Some tips for beautifying a kitchen would be to install an up-to-date backsplash. There are many materials that you can pick from.

A new countertop would also increase the value of your home as it would bring it up to date. Here, there are various choices available including newer ideas with glass or stainless steel. Choosing laminate is fine, especially now with the wide range of looks they have to offer. Going one step further can bring you to granite. For the look of granite, without the high cost, you could use granite tiles instead, saving you lots of money. This is a great option for average homes.

Always remember to choose materials and finishes that are easy to clean. Today, most of us are too busy to keep shining sinks and tiles and other high polished items. This will help to sell your home easier when you decide to put it on the market.
