Special Care For Granite Countertops
Granite though is a long lasting material special care is very essential so that the material remains intact for long years. Here are some DO'S AND DO NOT'S which can help your granite kitchen countertop to last longer.
DO'S: (1) WIPE OFF THE SURFACE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE: Acidic substances, citric soda, sauces, coffee, wines and juices contain materials which may tend to react with granite and develop stains on the surface. The best way to avoid stains is to wipe out the granite surface as soon as possible. (2) USE A SPONGE OR SOFT CLOTH: To clean your granite countertop one should always use a sponge or soft cloth. Moreover, in markets there are special liquid soaps available specially for cleaning granites which may help to keep the beauty of the countertop intact for years. Hot water can be used as an alternative for liquid soap. (3) USE DINNERWARE OR SPECIAL BASE FOR HOT UTENSILS: Always make it a point that special dinnerware or base is used for keeping hot utensils thus preventing the hot utensils from coming in contact with the granites. They actually do not cause any harm but as always said "Prevention is better than cure" which is applicable in this case.
DO NOT'S: (1) BLEACH AND GREASES FOR CLEANING: Regular cleaning and maintenance is a must, provided that bleaching powder or grease are not used as cleansing agent. (2) SIT OR STAND ON THE COUNTERTOPS: One should always try to avoid sitting or standing on granite countertops. They do not have a back up like other laminates so pressure on one side can create spot on granite. (3) AVOID CHOPPING VEGETABLES ON COUNTERTOPS: One should always avoid chopping vegetables on granite countertops instead use a vegetable chopping board.
It is always suggested to follow the care tips for granite countertops to keep your kitchen shining forever however you need not worry much as most of these problems can be easily repaired by following a few steps.
