Beautify your outdoor space with natural stone landscaping

September 27, 2009 · Filed Under natural stone landscaping.

So you just moved into a new home that’s been neglected by the previous occupants and the garden you envisioned as peaceful & romantic looks like a weedy monstrosity? You can transform your outdoor space into a beautiful & breezy spot by incorporating the elements of garden design and using  natural stone landscaping.

You don’t have to rush out and hire a small bulldozer to clear out your garden/yard.  Take a reflective pause.  Think of your garden as a series of distinct connecting rooms and you’ll realize what  garden design is all about. Patios and decks can extend out from the house, and reduce a lawn area.  In designing a garden, remember that trees and shrubs have a specific purpose.  Ivy on a trellis may hide your next door neighbor’s unsightly garage.
In terms of materials to be used not just for your garden and patio but all the way to paths & driveway, there are several heard-wearing materials with attractive finishes you can use. Picture yourself casually strolling in the garden arm in arm with your other half. What would be pleasant to look at and walk on? You may opt for the character of brick and cobblestone for your paths and patios. For your natural stone landscaping plan, try to use durable local materials where possible.  Brighten up heavily shaded areas by using light-colored stones or darker colored ones to tone down the brightness in sun-drenched areas.
Natural stone landscaping is ideal not just for paths & walkways but also for other garden focal points like ponds and waterfalls. Natural stones have myriad uses, including prevention of soil erosion and driveway safety blocks. In short, they are a saving grace.
